Supercuts Vacation

29 November 2019

It feels like a furlough. When I get to leave the compound these days, I mean.

I'm out in the world a couple of days ago and the world is so beautiful. The air is fresh from the rain and people are everywhere. Beautiful, creative people. I end up at Supercuts, because I have twins now, so the budget is either that or cut my hair myself. So I get the new girl. I didn't know it until it was too late. Esperanza was her name or Esmerelda, or maybe it was Ashley. She has trouble working the chair, so I get spun around a bit, but then she finds her groove and slows the whole world down for me. I get the feeling that she is cutting one hair at a time and I am so good with that. Because going to get a haircut when you have twins is like going on vacation. Next time I get a haircut I'm going to bring one of those souvenir margaritas you get in Vegas that are like a yard long. It's always perspective. And she's got 80's music playing and I'm so tired I'm passing in and out of wake and sleep and it's dreamy because The Cure is playing and its raining outside. Finally, when she is done and hands me the mirror to check the back of my head, she spins the chair too far so I can't see. She spins me back and now I see a V shape that I didn't want and the 80's are replaced by Katy Perry's “Teenage Dream,” which kills all the good feelings. I hear a grandmother in the chair next to me say, "I told my daughter no more babies!" And I head back home.
